What are three things every entrepreneur should know?

Starting out as an entrepreneur requires more than just a business plan. For me, an undying passion for solving a problem, a knack for assembling a talented team, and the wisdom to bootstrap as long as possible are the most important aspects that everyone should know before starting out on the path of entrepreneurship. The motivation must extend beyond financial gains, driving us through the inevitable challenges we’ll face.

What problem does your business solve, and who are its customers?

Summit Leadership Partners steps into the realm of mid-market companies, providing essential coaching and leadership training for executives. The saying “It’s lonely at the top,” can ring very true for many leaders. Leaders often lack the support that many other positions receive. Summit fills the void by offering tailored programs for leaders, ensuring they can thrive and, in turn, foster a thriving organizational culture.

What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

My journey from corporate America to entrepreneurship was driven by a confluence of timing and personal aspirations. Being the primary breadwinner for my family, I embraced the challenge of entrepreneurship, finding it to be one of the most rewarding journeys. 

The desire for a deeper purpose beyond a paycheck fueled my decision to venture into the unknown.

Knowing what you know now, how would you have spent a million dollars when you first started your business?

Reflecting on Summit’s early days, I would have highlighted the importance of early investment in professional marketing to build brand recognition. I also would have spent some money on bringing in a product expert sooner to streamline the Summit’s development process. I think these strategic moves would have provided a solid foundation and saved us valuable time.

What is your proudest accomplishment as an entrepreneur?

I take great pride in two significant accomplishments. First, I want to celebrate the incredible team that Summit has built, including nurturing younger talent. Secondly, I have such an incredible passion for promoting women in leadership roles, and I’ve strived to make a positive impact on changing perceptions in the private equity space.

What big goals are you looking to achieve?

In the face of a challenging market, my immediate focus is on getting Summit’s internal processes in order. The goal for 2024 is to prepare for the anticipated market resurgence by concentrating on product differentiation, refining branding approaches, and strengthening client relationships. The vision is to be well-positioned to scale when the market inevitably rebounds.
