Empathy and thoughtfulness, understanding your own secret sauce, and comprehending the nuances between clients - all of these are valuable skills for any entrepreneur to develop and improve on in order to find success in any industry.

They certainly are skills that Genna Rosenberg, CEO of Genn Comm and today’s guest on Entrepreneur Stories, has developed along her own entrepreneurial journey. Dive into her story with us for more invaluable wisdom and inspiration to put into your own endeavors.

What are three things every entrepreneur should know?

Genna believes that it’s essential to know what your brand represents and what your secret sauce is. What makes what you do stand out from the crowd? Truly understanding that we each bring our own unique perspective and vision to the table, as well as being able to discern the value in that, will help you stay focused on your vision.

There will be others doing something similar to what you do, but how and why you do it your way is what counts.

Another important aspect, according to Genna, is understanding nuances between your clients’ businesses. Essentially, Genna advises entrepreneurs not to sell the same service across the board. Your skill set can be utilized among lots of different industries and types of clients, but your comprehension of what their specific challenges and goals are will position you for success.

Tailoring your services to each client and being able to communicate those nuances is a skill that will help you succeed in various industries.

Lastly, Genna highlighted the importance of being very thoughtful regarding how you can grow your client’s business. This requires the ability to put yourself in your client’s shoes - especially if you’re in the service industry - so that you can understand what their challenges are and be adaptable enough to address them effectively.

Essentially, it’s important to have empathy for your client's business challenges and be a team player with them.

What problem does your business solve and who are its customers?

Genna’s business, Genn Comm, is a strategic communications company that helps its clients achieve social impact through innovative business models and deals, particularly within the social innovation space. They assist their clients in telling the stories they want to tell, to the audiences they want to tell them to, while helping them scale with innovative business models and strategic business deals.

The goal is to guide clients towards creating businesses that benefit both the planet and their bottom line.

What inspired you to become an Entrepreneur?

Genna believes her inspiration comes from the abundance of ideas that she is blessed with as well as her strong vision and belief that she can be more than one thing. She believes this gives her more control over her creative destiny while equipping her with more to offer, especially for her clients.

There is a lot that Genna wants to create and achieve in this world. She is a great storyteller, something she attributes the success of her communications business to. However, she doesn’t simply want to tell stories; she also wants to create products and help people and create entertainment content.

Genna decided rather early on that she was going to do it all - and do it all she does!

Knowing what you know now, how would you have spent a million dollars when you first started your business?

Genna began answering this question by highlighting the magnificence of her Genn Comm team. That being said, she’s always felt that she could've used some help from experienced and knowledgeable individuals when she first started. People who knew more and different things than Genna.

Therefore a good amount of the money would’ve been used to invest in more experienced people who could have supercharged her ideas faster. She and our host, Courtney Botha, emphasized the importance of investing in the right people from the beginning. Genna acknowledged that having a knowledgeable team with her from the start would’ve helped her scale her business faster.

What is your proudest accomplishment as an Entrepreneur?

Similar to some of our other guests on Entrepreneur Stories, Genna is incredibly proud of the teams that she’s built at Genn Comm. She’s also proud of all of their products. They’ve had the privilege of working with some excellent brands - doing their PR - and they have created a terrific portfolio of consumer products that they license to companies around the world.

Genna finds this to be really exciting - that they’re actually making it happen.

What big goals are you looking to achieve?

Genna’s main goal that she’s excited about is the momentum they’ve gained with their social impact business, dubbed Good Works by Genn Comm. They have their first client, a singing machine company called Careoke. Genna is hopeful and excited to grow that and other social impact businesses with Good Works.

Genna and her team align with their mission by establishing partnerships with philanthropic organizations. They create collaborations with individuals and groups dedicated to enhancing mental and physical well-being while being gentle on the planet and finding success as businesses.

What is the main mission of your business? Why is this your mission? How are you bringing this mission to life and changing lives with it? We’d love to sit down and discuss your answers with you! Get in touch with us today to share your own Entrepreneur Story with Amplomedia.
