Where should you host your marketing videos?

So, you have your video, but now what do you do with it?

There are SO many ways to implement video into your marketing strategy, but first and foremost, you need to find a space to host your video! We’ve outlined our top recommendations for video hosting platforms and a few of the pros and cons of each.

YouTube

Everyone is familiar with YouTube for free video hosting. And while YouTube offers great video analytics, playlists, call to action options, and the ability to really dig in and optimize your video for SEO, it does have drawbacks. When you embed a YouTube player onto your website, YouTube will always play "recommended videos" at the end of your video. These recommendations are not only beyond your control but could even be videos belonging to your competitors. And no one wants to give free advertising to their competitors!

Vimeo

You've probably heard of Vimeo, it's gained a lot of popularity recently, especially with video marketers looking to avoid the dreaded "recommended videos" cycle that happens within an embedded YouTube video player. What else is great about Vimeo? It's super easy to use, has a slick-looking embeddable player that can be customized (to an extent) to match your branding, and it also offers options for adding calls to action to your videos! The downside? The fancier features come at a (relatively small) cost.

Wistia

Now Wistia may be a more unfamiliar name to you. We love Wistia! Superior video marketing abilities and features come out-of-the-box with any Wistia plan. That includes a great, fully customizable, embeddable video player, A/B testing, options for social sharing, email gating (hello, video as a lead generation tool!), video analytics, and more. However, when we say it's the Cadillac of video hosting platforms, we aren't just talking about features. Once you have more than three videos it can get quite costly per month.

Who wins the showdown for us? Well, if you have the budget for it, Wistia takes the cake. If you're not looking to spend a chunk of change each month on your video hosting, then we would recommend looking to Vimeo over YouTube. Not only is the player more flexible in terms of branding, but you can avoid those pesky recommended videos. But should you ignore YouTube altogether? NO. YouTube is the second largest search engine on the internet. There are 2 billion logged-in YouTube users per month. And that's just the people who are logged in!! So no, don't ignore YouTube, just skip it as a hosting platform for videos embedded elsewhere. Instead, invest some time into crafting a great YouTube strategy to help boost your brand awareness and SEO rankings.

So, once you select which video hosting platform is best for you and your business, you can start embedding your video into your website, sharing it over email, posting it on social, running an ad campaign, and so much more. You'll be well on your way to amplifying your marketing strategy and bringing in more customers with video!

Don't forget to use best practices when uploading your video! Be sure to choose an eyecatching thumbnail and optimize your video title and description when you upload to your hosting platform. After all, the whole point is to get people to WATCH your video, right?
