“Resilience is such a critical thing for entrepreneurs,” Imran emphasizes. “We face so much adversity; we get knocked down, and we have to dust ourselves off, get back up, and face whatever challenge is next.” But resilience is not just about bouncing back – it’s about reframing challenges and learning from them. “It’s important to have a plan, but it’s equally important to pivot and understand where you need to move when things don’t go your way.”

The inspiration for Hatchproof stemmed from Imran’s tenure as a VP at Instapage, where he took over the HR function in 2021. “I found a lot of disparate systems and unique workflows,” he recalls. The pandemic had also brought to light fundamental questions about why, where, and how we work. “The next thing I build is going to be in this space,” he says, focusing on the intersection of AI and the future of work.

Hatchproof is an AI-backed people alignment platform designed to enhance employee retention and productivity by aligning individual and organizational goals from the outset. “My thesis was, if we work for people, why are we not connecting people within an organization based on that alignment?” Imran explains. “AI allows us to look at large data sets and drive intelligence from them,” Imran explains. If you’re more preventative, we’ll focus on making you the best expert in your field.”

Imran emphasizes the importance of constant feedback loops with end-users to ensure the product meets their needs. “One of the major reasons you fail in product development is trying to do too much too quickly,” he warns. Imran also highlights the importance of having a small, agile team. “You don’t need thousands of people to build a sustainable company,” he says. With the right tools and strategies, a lean team can achieve significant milestones. “Instagram hit a billion-dollar valuation with just 14 or 15 people. You can get very far with very few if you use the right tool sets, and AI is one of those tools.”

Looking ahead, Imran envisions a future where AI plays an even more integral role in the workplace. “AI is allowing us to look at very large data sets rapidly and drive intelligence from it,” he says. In five years, he anticipates AI will be deeply embedded in HR and people productivity tools, helping organizations manage their workforce more effectively.

“AI will help connect the dots between an individual’s behavioral traits and their performance.” Imram explains that this connection will enable more personalized management strategies, improving employee satisfaction and retention. “If we know from a behavioral standpoint that you’re likely to leave a company after two years, we can take proactive steps to engage you and extend your tenure.”

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

For entrepreneurs looking to embrace AI in their businesses, Imran advises starting now. “It’s not too late. Think about AI as a competitive advantage—how does it help you do something faster, cheaper, or better?” He also cautions against becoming overly reliant on a single AI provider, as changes in their services could disrupt your business.

Imran’s final piece of advice is to avoid being a “peace monger”—a leader who tries to appease everyone. “You can’t make everybody happy with your decisions,” he says. Effective leadership requires making tough, sometimes unpopular decisions. “An army of deer led by a lion will always defeat an army of lions led by a deer. I’m looking for strong leadership, and that’s what I respect most.”
