Pedro shares insights on what every successful entrepreneur should know, and delves into the challenges of data democratization and how Pedro’s company is differentiating itself in the market. Pedro’s company is focused on solving the business intelligence adoption problem in the data analytics space.
What are three things every entrepreneur should know?
Starting out on an entrepreneurial journey is both exhilarating and challenging. From my personal perspective, I’d emphasize three important things that every entrepreneur should know. First, it’s never too late to become an entrepreneur. The drive to embark on this path can arise at any stage of your career. Secondly, surround yourself with the right support system. Having a network of knowledgeable and supportive individuals can make a significant difference. Lastly, don’t feel like you have to do it all yourself. Having co-founders enriches your perspective and often leads to better outcomes.
What problem does your business solve, and who are its customers?
Our startup, Wallabi, is tackling the business intelligence adoption problem within the data analytics space. Traditionally, analytics tools have been the domain of experts, leaving a significant portion of the workforce unable to leverage data effectively.
We aim to empower the 75% of individuals who lack specialized skills or support to ask meaningful questions and gain valuable insights. Our initial focus is on functional team managers in areas such as marketing, operations, logistics, and commerce, who often need data-driven insights but lack the expertise to navigate complex analytics tools.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
The inspiration to become an entrepreneur stems from a combination of personal drive and a recognition of a disruption moment in the data and analytics industry. I believe that the next wave of leaders in this space will emerge from innovative startups addressing segments of the market overlooked by established vendors. This conviction, coupled with the desire to bring a fresh perspective to a longstanding problem, fueled my decision to step into the world of entrepreneurship.
Knowing what you know now, how would you have spent a million dollars when you first started your business?
If I were handed a million dollars when we started this venture, the primary allocation would be towards enhancing our engineering capabilities. Building and shipping code faster is our current priority, and having the resources to accelerate this process would significantly impact our product development. While other aspects like go-to-market strategies and branding are important, being true to the customer problem and rapidly iterating our solution takes precedence in the early stages.
What is your proudest accomplishment as an entrepreneur?
While it’s early to pinpoint a single proudest accomplishment, two moments stand out.
Firstly, the decision to take the leap into entrepreneurship, moving away from a comfortable position, reflects personal growth and resilience. Secondly, assembling a team of individuals with high character and a deep understanding of the problem at hand is a source of pride.
The journey is ongoing, but building a foundation of committed and talented team members is a significant achievement for me.
What big goals are you looking to achieve?
This year holds critical milestones for us. Achieving product-market fit is paramount, validating that our solution resonates with our target audience. Simultaneously, building a strong, customer-focused team would signify progress on multiple fronts. These goals align with our commitment to addressing the analytics adoption barrier and providing a solution that effectively meets the needs of our users.
