Give us a recap of what March MEAET is all about [0:53]

Edmonton’s NextGen is a nonprofit organization that hosts different events for Edmontonians aged 18 to 40 years. One of their signature events is MEAET, a microfunding contest that includes different weekly local restaurant giveaways. This year, any local Edmonton business was eligible to submit a video entry to show why they deserve the funds.

To learn more about Edmonton’s NextGen and MEAET events, check out episode 44.

NextGen received 16 video submissions and over 2600 eligible votes from people all across the city. The votes have been tallied and the top two businesses who won prize funds from RBC are here with us today.

Julie Morrison from Majesty and Friends won first place.

Alex Liaw from Golomein Noodle House won second place.

Congratulations!

Julie, tell us about Majesty and Friends [3:04]

Majesty and Friends is a teeny tiny little store in the Highlands area. They focus primarily on selling local, handmade gifts. Due to the outpour of support that the store has received in the past year, they’ve outgrown their space. Fortunately, Julie has moved forward with opening up a second location in Manchester Square this June! The money won will be applied to construction costs.

Alex, tell us about Golomein Noodle House [5:54]

Golomein Noodle House operates out of Bountiful Farmers’ Market on the south side. If you haven’t been to this market yet, it’s an indoor Edmonton market that’s open three days a week (Friday to Sunday). Golomein Noodle House offers Brunei-style noodle dishes (both fresh and frozen) made from recipes by Alex’s dad. They also sell their products through Uproot Collective.
